Sensitivity of airborne transmission of enveloped viruses to seasonal variation in indoor relative humidity

In temperate climates, the peak in infection rates of enveloped viruses during winter is likely heightened by seasonal variation relative humidity within indoor spaces. While these trends are established influenza and human coronaviruses, mechanisms driving this seasonality remain poorly understood. Relative impacts evaporation rate equilibrium size airborne particles, which turn may impact particle removal virion viability. However, importance two processes not known. Here we use Quadrature-based model Respiratory Aerosol Droplets to explore whether driven differences or inactivation rates. Through a large ensemble simulations, found that dry conditions typical lead slower than humid summer; ventilated spaces, reduction increases concentration active virions, but effect was important exposure only when susceptible person farther 2 m downwind infectious person. On other hand, on settling velocity did significantly affect travel distance virus-laden suggesting more transmission via removal.
